Why fix a windshield chip?

A small chip is quick to repair. Left alone, it can grow into a crack across the glass.

  • Stops the chip spreading

Heat, cold and bumps can turn a small chip into a long crack.

  • Far cheaper than a new windshield

A repair saves you the cost and the wait of a replacement.

  • Keeps the glass strong

The resin bonds the chip so the glass keeps its strength.

  • Often covered by insurance

Many policies pay for a repair. Check with your insurer.

Repair or a new windshield?

Most small chips can be repaired. Send us a photo and we will tell you which it is before you book.

We can usually repair it

  • A small chip or star in the outer glass
  • A chip caught before it spreads
  • A chip away from the edge of the windshield

It may need a new windshield

  • A long crack across the glass
  • Damage right at the edge of the windshield
  • Damage through both sheets of glass

How windshield chip repair works

A windshield is two sheets of glass with a layer between them, and a stone chip usually only breaks the outer sheet. We clean the chip, fill it with resin and cure it under UV light.

The repair stops the chip spreading and keeps the glass strong. You can still see a faint mark where the stone hit, but most people would never notice it.

When a chip can be repaired

  • A small chip or star in the outer glass
  • Caught early, before it runs into a crack
  • Away from the very edge of the windshield

What decides the price

  • How many chips there are
  • How big each chip is

  • A windshield is two sheets of glass with a layer between them. A chip usually only damages the outer sheet, and we fill it with resin and cure it under UV light.

  • You can still see a faint mark where the stone hit, but it is very slight. The repair is there to stop the chip spreading and save you a new windshield.

  • Many insurers would rather pay for a repair than a new windshield, and some cover the full cost. Check your own policy with your insurer.

  • We don’t charge for a repair that fails. We judge a repair by the strength of the glass, not by how it looks.

  • Not every one. A long crack, or damage right at the edge of the windshield, may need a new windshield. Send us a photo and we will tell you.

  • As soon as you can. Heat, cold and bumps in the road can make a small chip spread.
